Ever wondered how successful working mom entrepreneurs do it and what some of the benefits are? There are numerous mom entrepreneurs success stories, and with some expert advice, you can be one of them. Read on for more information.
Clear Some Space
One thing you do need to do before you dive into a career change is clear your schedule just enough to know that you really do have the time to focus on this new venture.
Removing extraneous activities and even demanding people from your life can go a long way, so it’s best to start re-assessing your habits and friend list right away. If you’re single, you may want to consider who you are dating; if you have a willing babysitter, set up a time once a week where you can spend at least two hours on your business and have them come over.
Involve your Family in Your Business
As you undergo training and learn new things, be sure to share them with your family. You can even make it a point of teaching them what you’re doing, or if you have older, tech-savvy kids, let them teach you. The point is that your business doesn’t have to be an entirely separate entity, and encouraging your kids to join in where possible will not only set a good example; it will offer more quality time all around.
Know that You are Already a Manager
If you’ve never been in a leadership position at a traditional job, you may very well believe that you’re not qualified to run your own business – but nothing could be farther from the truth. Think about all the things you do as a mom, including the emotional labour, scheduling, budgeting, conflict resolution, and day-to-day problem-solving. You’re already a manager with ample experience.
Join Forces With an Existing Company
If you think that running your own business is stressful – you’re right. But there are ways to do it that give you flexibility without putting 100% of the stress on your shoulders. You may want to consider becoming a consultant or freelancing and working with an agency, for instance.
